SR22 Barrel instructions

SR22 Barrel instructions

Please read your Ruger SR22 instruction manual thoroughly before attempting disassembly, or any modifications to your firearm.

It should go without saying that altering a firearm with aftermarket parts comes with certain risks and will most likely void the manufacturer’s warranty. Please understand and accept we assume no liability for injury or death to the purchaser or anyone residing with, or within the range of an intentional or accidental discharge of the firearm.  The purchaser is solely responsible for the use of their firearm with or without our parts.

It is the purchaser’s sole responsibility to be absolutely certain that any aftermarket part is installed and fitted correctly. Improper installation could result in a serious malfunction that could cause serious injury and/or death to the shooter or anyone within range of the discharged firearm. The purchaser and/or the installer of the part(s) must accept full responsibility for the correct installation and fitment for proper function.

Any modifications to a firearm should be performed by a qualified gunsmith, but this barrel installation can be performed by an average mechanically inclined individual. Follow the instructions starting on page (23) of your SR22 instruction manual for disassembly of you firearm.

To install your new barrel, mount the barrel to the frame as instructed on page (26) of your SR22 manual. (If installing our “Original Threaded Barrel) make sure the thread protector and the ½”-28 suppressor adaptors are removed from the barrel, before re-assembly. Reassemble the firearm following the instructions in your manual page (26), making sure not to damage the threads on the end of the barrel. When installing the thread protector or adapter .. A knurled area or 7/16” wrench flats are provided on the thread protector and OEM style adapter, and ½” wrench flats are provided on the Original style threaded adaptor. This will enable you to lightly snug accessories to the barrel (be careful not to over tighten). (IMPORTANT!) The 9/64” Socket Head Cap screw and lock washer that holds the barrel to the frame should be checked periodically during each shooting session to make sure it’s tight. If you purchased a threaded barrel, and shooting with a Suppressor, it too should be checked periodically to ensure that it has not vibrated loose, resulting in a “Baffle Strike”. We also DO NOT recommend “Hyper Velocity” 22LR ammunition. When shooting suppressed, DO NOT shoot the suppressor “Wet”. Subsonic ammunition is also recommended when shooting suppressed.

For care and cleaning follow the instructions in your SR22 manual page (31). Remove thread protector or adapter and clean residues from the threads after your shooting session.

Anytime a barrel modification is preformed on a firearm the bullets trajectory will change and when you add a suppressor it may change even more. Due to the phenomenon known as “Free Bore Boost”, Twin Tech cannot guaranty the accuracy of our barrels with any screw on attachment or suppressor functioning or non-functioning. Eye and ear protection should be worn at all times during your shooting session.

You should also be aware that there have been failures reported about the SR22’s OEM polymer takedown lever. Apparently after firing (300-4000) rounds thru the weapon, there have been incidents where the OEM takedown lever has broken during operation, allowing the slide to come apart from the frame, this is why we do not recommend “Hyper Velocity” ammunition. Due to increased back pressures that could break the Take Down Lever, we also recommend only using subsonic ammo when shooting suppressed.

Twin Tech cannot warrant what may be a design flaw in the (Ruger takedown lever), and would refer you to Rugers service department if this unfortunate event happens to you. If you have a (Ruger takedown lever) failure it’s the takedown lever’s possible design flaw, not the fault of our barrels. You would have had the failure regardless of which barrel you were using. If you get tired of sending your pistol back to Ruger you can purchase one of our takedown levers to solve the problem.
